Happy Halloween!!

This Halloween we had a She-Devil....

and a Jr. Superman!

So excited to get out and hit the subdivision up for candy!

Before we left they sat outside to give out candy to anyone who came out early. We had 2 before we left.

We met up with Madeline's friend Halli and her family on the other end of the subdivision.

Matthew tried to squeeze into everyone's house when they opened the door! He would also sing "Trick or treat, smell my feet" over and over.

Halli has a little brother, Jack, who is in Matthew's class.

Madeline had a lot of fun trick-or-treating with a friend.

Madeline and Halli each share 1/2 of a Best Friends necklace. They wanted a picture of them putting the two halves together.

Back at home it was time to dump out the loot and inspect it all.

They made quite a haul.

Halloween Fever

On Friday Madeline had to dress up for Egypt culture day. The kids could come as either Cleopatra, a pharaoh or a mummy. This is our homemade take on Cleopatra. The headpiece was one Aunt Nancy brought back from Israel.

Matthew's school had Western Day. He got to go as a cowboy complete with red boots which he loved. Dee made the little vest for Madeline back when she had Western Days at the daycare.

I took the eyeball cupcakes to Madeline's party. They also had Halloweenies, the brownies from the class experiment the day before, Halloween cookies and Halloween candy canes.

For activities they spelled their names in hieroglyphics, did coloring sheets and made a mummy.

Here they are making a mummy by wrapping classmates in toilet paper.

Madeline's party was at 1:30 so when that ended I went down to Matthew's party that started at 3:00. This was his little place setting at the table.

Jeff got off early and came up to Matthew's party too. We found out that Matthew loved the Dora yogurts.

But he was not a fan of string cheese. Note his cute little western shirt. Overlook the stains from his lunch that day....

Here they are at the party. There are 5 in the class and Matthew is the only boy and the youngest one too.

Liquids To Solids

On Thursday I got to go to Madeline's class to help with their science experiments. They made icecream in ziplock bags by shaking it (milk, sugar, vanilla in one baggie and that baggie went into a large bag with salt and ice).

Then they all made brownies in class as another experiment. Here they are writing out their hypothesis on what they think will happen to the mixture.

Migration

Madeline's texture poster on migration is coming along nicely. It's due on 11/8 so we are ahead of the game.

Eyeball Cupcakes

I'm in charge of bringing Halloween cupcakes to Madeline's class party tomorrow. I thought making them look like eyballs would be cute and easy! I think if I had been able to find Lifesaver Gummies that were green or blue like a real eye they might have looked perfect. But we'll just say these are monster eyes since they are red, purple and yellow! ha ha

I treated myself to a new cupcake carrier from Bed Bath & Beyond since we do some many things like this for school functions and birthdays. Now I can take them in without messing up the design.

Fun Times Ahead...

This would be Madeline closed in the pantry with the telephone so she can have a private conversation with her friend. When did 7 become the new 13???

Pumpkin Carving

Carving Madeline's pumpkin...

At first she wouldn't put her hands in it but she warmed up to the idea when she realized how gross it felt. =)

Now it's ready to be painted.

Matthew's turn to clean his out.

Jeff suggested we cook the pumpkin seeds. He found a recipe online and boiled them in salt water.

Then baked them with butter and coarse salt. It was fun to do but as for the taste, it was 'eh'. Just something to say we tried. =)

And the pumpkin painting begins...

Matthew is going for the Modern Art theme.

Madeline wanted a blue-eye'd pumpkin.

With yellow eyelashes to compliment the bloody black scars.

They both worked hard on them.

Finished products are on the mantle.

On the table I have one of my favorite decorations. The ceramic pumpkin was my Mother's that she painted. It's a cookie jar and the witch hat comes off and there is a pumpkin top that can on it. So it can be used for Halloween and Thanksgiving.
